Why Would You Build a Wall?

I’ve just come back from seeing Billy Bragg and Joe Henry perform in support of their really rather excellent “Shine a Light: Field Recordings from the Great American Railroad” album.

As you would expect for a gig being held on US Election Day, both artists had plenty to say about current events, which I won’t get into now, and I’ll talk about the gig another day. A very dear friend of mine is going to see them in a couple of days, and I don’t want to spoil it for him (not that I really think that’s possible).

But, amongst the songs from the album, Billy played this next song, not one I’d heard before, and which I felt compelled to track down as soon as I got home. Y’know, before all the drinking to celebrate/drown my sorrows.

It’s relevance tonight surely doesn’t need spelling out:

Anaïs Mitchell ft. Greg Brown – Why We Build the Wall

I’ll be staying up to watch the results come in, so apologies in advance if my posts here, or my Tweets if you happen to follow me, get more drunken and dark.

See you on the other side.

More soon.
