  1. “You don’t need me to tell you how great that is, do you?”
No. But it does sound remarkably like Wild Side Of Life. Or should that be the other way round?

  2. I was thinking the very same thing George. ‘Wild Side Of Life’ must’ve written a good few years after this one though? Either way, it’s a lovely way to start a Sunday morning.

  3. The Carter Family recorded “I’m Thinking Tonight of My Blue Eyes” (written by A.P. Carter) sometime in the late 1920’s/ early 1930’s (as far as I can figure out) on a 78 r.p.m record for the Victor label. Been covered scores of times since then. “The Wild Side of Life” was first released – by Hank Thompson and His Brazos Valley Boys – in 1952. So “Blue Eyes” was the original tune. Johnny Cash’s wife, June Carter Cash was one of The Carter Family which has recorded songs from 1927 to 2010. So, a longer running band than the Stones – or even Status Quo! I can heartily recommend the album “Will the Circle be Unbroken” by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. It features members of the Carter Family (and many, many other fine traditional country and folk musicians ) on various tracks (around 40 songs!) and is a great example of the old style country music tradition. You can pick up a remastered CD of the album for less than a tenner. A sodding bargain, if you ask me.
